The price was R156.61 per ton higher than the Final Price for cane deliveries during the 2011/12 season. The increase was due mainly to the higher LMDE (1 738 058 tons vs. 1 685 312 tons), the weaker average R/$ exchange rate (7.97 vs. 7.35) and the considerably improved sugar:RV ratio (95.06% vs. 93.40%). The 366 314 ton increase in sugar production (2 198 752 tons vs. 1 832 438 tons) and the lower average No.11 price would have influenced the price negatively but these were outweighed by the positive factors.
